Resident Return Visas

Have you stayed overseas longer than expected? Not sure if you can still come back to Australia as a permanent resident?

Why do I need a Resident Return Visa (RRV)?

This visa allows you as an Australian permanent resident, to travel to and from Australia until the travel provision of your visa ends

Resident Return Visa, is it for me?

This visa is for an Australian permanent resident, a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled, or a former Australian citizen who lost or renounced citizenship.

If you leave Australia after your travel validity expires on your permanent visa, or the travel facility expires when you are overseas, you will not be able to return to Australia as a permanent resident. However, this visa once granted to you and your family, allows you all to return as a permanent resident.

Enjoy what Australia has to offer

Often, it is quite complex to obtain an Australian Permanent Resident. It requires a lot of time, energy and honestly, money to put an application together. The processing time is usually also a long wait, so why waste all those efforts if you can come back to Australia as a permanent resident

Eligibility

Your eligibility to apply for an RRV needs to be assessed correctly. Depending on your circumstances, we can guide you with what you will need, to put forward the best Application possible.

In order to apply for a Resident Return visa, you must satisfy the below basic requirement:
  • you must be an Australian permanent resident; or
  • a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled; or
  • a former Australian citizen who lost or renounced citizenship.

Additionally, you (and all applicants) must meet the Australian residence or substantial ties requirements, as well as the character requirements.
  • Resident Return visa (Subclass 155 )
  • Resident Return visa (Subclass 157 )

What is the difference between the RRV 155 and RRV 157?
  • RRV 155 allows either a 12-month travel facility or a 5-year travel facility while RRV 157 allows a 3-month travel facility.

Which RRV will be granted to you?
  • It depends on the evidence you provide and your circumstances relating to the Australian resident and substantial ties requirements. When you submit an RRV application, you will be assessed against the criteria for both the RRV 155 and RRV 157 visas.
  • If you do not meet the 155 RRV requirements, then you may be granted the RRV 157.
  • If you do not meet the Australian resident requirement or the substantial ties requirement, but have compassionate and compelling reasons for leaving Australia, you may be granted the RRV 157.
