A bridging visa is for non-Australian citizens to remain lawfully in Australia temporarily
Stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally determined or any other appropriate proceedings are completed.
Australian Bridging Visas, a bridge to lawfully stay in Australia
Bridging Visas allows non-Australian citizens to remain lawfully in Australia temporarily for a certain period. They serve as a bridge between your current visa and the new visa that you have applied for. A bridging visa is granted to applicants while they await a decision on another visa application, but for other applicants, it may be to prepare to leave Australia. Each bridging visa has its conditions and will be granted to you depending on your circumstances.
Enjoy what Australia has to offer
Holding a bridging visa may just allow you to have sufficient time to obtain another substantive visa, make arrangements to leave Australia, wait to finalise your immigration matter, or complete any other appropriate proceedings.
